Mayan Sun

I painted this for my girlfriend's birthday on the 3rd of August. Definitely wasn't a walk in the park due to all the detail but I think it came out rather well. It's a Mayan sun design that I redesigned with her in the centre. It's all done with a single colour and three tones. The background, which I wanted to make looked like a weathered copper or clay, I did by dabbing a scrunched up plastic bag in paint and then dabbing it on the canvas. Seemed to work better than expected. I'm also quite happy with the false 3D effect I created using the three tones. I'd go as far as saying this is my best painting to date. It's also the smallest painting I've done as it's only 12x12. All in all, very happy and so was she <3

Painted in acrylic paint on a 12x12 canvas. Time: lots of hours. Days even. I work slow. Sue me.
